the brackit journey

so, yep. i have been building brackit in secret. i don't really know why i didn't make it public that i was building brackit. and then one day, i just decided to post a story about it. when i build different things, i am usually not afraid to post about it online and see what the response is. this was quite different than that norm.

this project was quite bigger than the other codebases i built and this was my first attempt at commercializing one of my projects. in the end i decided to let it be open source for now and if it does generate significant user impact, then we can see how we can integrate stripe with it. but for now it is free for everyone to use.

the idea for brackit came one day to me when i was sitting with a friend from nvm co/build and when he told me about media kits. then i thought back to the moment when another friend of mine, when i was in high school, asked me to build him a portfolio website. i thought, we should have a platform to build exactly that in minutes instead in hours on canva, adobe or coding the whole thing from scratch. so i did exactly that. built something similar to linktree for creatives and influencers.

the branding for brackit was tough. i always hated to do the branding part of any project. i always name my projects something stupid, but this one needed a name that sticks with the users. brackit initially began with demrkd, which then became ratd, which finally became brackit. i had claude design do the entire branding for the website and even the logo was done by claude design. completely burnt through my tokens, but it was a good brand.

now, i want to see where this will head. see if this can achieve the goal i had set in my mind, or just head to the archives like portsmith. but i am planning to do a chill launch week this coming week, to see if it is really worth pursuing this project, or just leave it in the dust. hope y'all will follow along.
